A wonderful creative friendship connects us with the Lithuanian school “Avilys” (The Beehive) in Luxembourg. On February 7 of this year, at the Kaziukas Fair, experience was shared by Dalia Urbonienė, chairwoman of the Utena Folk Artists, and folk artist Jolita Juneliūnienė. Dalia spoke about the traditions of gingerbread baking. The most enjoyable part was baking a delicious gingerbread yourself and tasting the flavor of “Festive Gingerbread.” Jolita introduced the wool felting technique and taught those gathered to make felted wool toys. This was the second creative collaboration trip. Last year, young Lithuanians learned to bind pussy willows (Jovita Balčiūnienė) and decorate Easter eggs with wax (Gitana Navickienė).
We are very pleased that we can share our experience and hope that the traditions of folk art and culinary heritage that are dear to us will continue to be cherished. We thank Jolanta Švedkauskaitė, chairwoman of the Lithuanian community in Luxembourg, for the warm welcome.
